The Prayer Of The Optimist

God, grant that I may see the joke of things,
The little things that bother now and  then.
God grant my sense of humor may be strong
To weep a bit and then to smile again.

God grant there be a chuckle in each tear,
To every trial, God grant a funny half.
So when I'm being judged, perhaps you'll say:
"Are you the soul who always tried yo laugh?"

And when I nod and answer, "Yes, I am,
I tried to kill my troubles with a grin,"
Perhaps you'll smile and say, "That was a task!"
But here's the Gate of Heaven. Enter in!"

What would be your Legacy?

They said he had died!
One morning in 1888 Alfred Nobel, the inventor of dynamite, who had amassed a fortune manufacturing and selling weapons of destruction, awoke to read his own obituary in the newspaper.

Actually, it was his brother who had died, but a reporter mistakenly wrote Alfred's obituary. For the first time Alfred Nobel saw himself as the world saw him: "The Dynamite King" and nothing more. Nothing was mentioned about his efforts at breaking down barriers between people and ideas. He was simply a merchant of death, and he would be remembered for that alone.

Alfred was horrified. He determined that the world would know the true people of his life. So he wrote his last will and testament and left his fortune to establish that most valued of all prizes: the NOBEL PEACE PRIZE.

Now, the world has forgotten his dynamite legacy.

After reading this story, I came to realize that in our everyday living as we traverse the long and winding path of life, we tend to forget what is really our main purpose of living. What are we living for? Why do we continue to survive? Why are working day and night?

There are a  lot of questions that are running inside my head. Questions pertaining to what will be my legacy in life. A legacy that would make my parents and those people who knows me proud. But beyond that external motivation, what will be my internal motive of leaving a legacy worth remembering for?

As I try to reminisce the 24 years that I've been spending, I can never really pinpoint even a single event that I can say that it can be my legacy to the people. Then it came into my mind this question: "What is my understanding of legacy?"
Does legacy means all your note-worthy achievements in life? or does legacy means your own principles and ideals? What is really the accurate definition of legacy?

I simply define legacy as on how I lived my life, on the very nature of how I did my best out of what I only have. My legacy can be viewed either on the good side or bad. It is now up to the person how he/she sees me as an individual. My legacy is to live my life. A life which is bound to end. The legacy to show life both in its glorious and disastrous life for in this manner, people will get to see a view of what is life then if they'll tread on the path leading towards evil or journey on a life encircled by goodness.

Bottomline, legacy should not limited by someone else's definition or of someone of high scholastic achievement or of someone with extravagant living.

Legacy should be define based on your purest intention of how you will live and leave the life you have right now.

Family Blessings

Let me leave you with this short story. Hope you appreciate and value your family more than anything that money can offer. God bless each of our families. Good day!

******************************************************************
The new neighbor struck up a conversation with a 7-year-old boy living next door.
"How many kids in your family?" he asked.
"Eight", the child said.
"My, that many children must cost a lot of money," said the neighbor.
"Oh, we don't buy them. We raise them," replied the boy.

Two Seas in Palestine

There are two seas in Palestine. They are both very different. One is called the Sea of Galilee. It is a large lake with clean fresh water from which you can drink. Fish and people swim in it. It is surrounded by green fields and gardens. Many people have built their homes near to it. Jesus sailed across it many times.
The other big body of water is called Dead Sea, and it really lives up to its name. Everything about it is dead. The water is so salty that you would get sick from trying to drink  it. It has no fish. Nothing grows along its banks. No one wants to live anywhere near its unpleasant smell.
The interesting thing about both these bodies of water is that the same river flows into both of them.
So what makes difference?
Just this: one receives and gives; the other receives and keeps.
The Jordan River flows into the top of the Sea of Galilee and out the bottom. The lake uses the water and then passes it on for others to use. The Jordan River then flows into the Dead Sea and never gets out again.
The Dead Sea selfishly keeps it only for itself.
This makes it dead.
It gets and never gives.

Isn't the story lovely?  It tells us people that if we are grateful and sharing with the blessings that we are getting, life will prosper. It is never a hidden fact that living in this world is never an easy task. Almost everyone is trying to get ahead of someone else by all means. There are different types of people lurking on this earth. But just like the Sea of Galilee and Dead Sea, people are characterized as sharing and greedy.

It pays a lot if we are sharing, grateful and giving individual. Though we all have our own needs and wants, isn't it better if we spare some of our money or time or even ourselves in service for others. We live and survive in this world because of the presence of one another. We have to work hand in hand for our success. Good for those people who knows and understands that there are people who needs them more. The Spirit of Giving should or must be present in our hearts because it nourishes our soul. It makes us wealthier, a wealth not only boxed in the concept of money.

The story tells us that the more we give and share the more it makes our lives worthwhile and meaningful. Have you experience those moments when you see someone like a beggar on the side walk or even just a vendor and you offer them help. I can clearly remember one incident when I was still living in Banilad, Cebu where I used to take a walk from my house to Coutrymall. Right across that mall is University of Cebu. Every time I pass by there, I always see an old lady selling candies, cigarettes, etc. She was pretty much friendly. Many times when I get a chance to pass her I usually greet her "Maayong gabii nang" (Good Evening Nang). And she would eagerly respond with a greeting and a big smile. It has been like that for quite some time.

One night, I think it was payday and I was on my nightly routine which is to have a brisk walk. I came to pass by Chowking. Then suddenly the old lady came into my mind. I check first if she's there and I went back to the fastfood chain to buy something for her to eat. Because there was an instance wherein I saw her eating her "baon", rice and a small slice of fish and there water. She even offered me and said "Kaon ta dong". She was really friendly and she reminds me of my lola diding. When I already have the food with me, I just simply gave it to her and told her "Para na sa imo Nang" and then I left immediately right after she said thank you. It was a very small gesture but I was really happy about it. I went home contented and smiling. I realized that no matter how small you're actions are, for as long as it is done with good heart and of pure intentions then it is of big worth.

There have been a lot of times that I was being helped by people whom I don't know. And those people did not even ask for anything in return. Isn't it appropriate to share the goodness of those people by means of giving my kindness to others as well. This world is not as cruel as most people tells us.

Just as the Dead Sea offers nothing but of Death and Absence, there are also people in this world that is living a state of life resembling Dead Sea. They just keep on receiving but did not learn to share. They were being enveloped by greediness, materialism, lust, and selfishness. These people might be just a stranger to us or even one of those loved ones of ours. So what can we do for us to salvage them from that abject and ugly situation? It is now our challenge to let the Sea of Sharing overflow over those hearts of people drenched with Sea of Greediness. Let us try to replace the water in their hearts with clean ones. It is never too late.

May we continue to be a blessing to one another.

Is Suicide the Ultimate Solution?

It is another gloomy morning. I really don't know what to write here. There are a lot of things that have been running in my mind. I am really stuck in this unproductive life. It seems that everyday is a struggle to survive but my efforts are always in vain. I really don't know what is wrong or am I just keeping myself blinded of the truth that are laid in front of me. In this predicament that I am into right now I have nothing to say but to hope that I can triumph this. It is never easy when you are always bombarded with pressures and issues. It makes you toxic, jaded, and paranoid.

Being unemployed for almost 6 months now is never easy. The pressure coming from different groups of people be it in the family, society, friends, and even to myself. Sometimes I can't help but thinking of taking away my life. I know it is an absurd idea. A solution that most coward and irrational people will do but sometimes I think that it is the best and easiest way to escape the reality of life. The best sample is hanging up myself to death but as always rationalization comes into the scene and will change my mind. There could be more better options to try on than committing suicide. I know you'll agree with me. There have been a lot of people you know that committed suicide. And most of our reactions would be: why did he/she do it? what made her/him do that gruesome action? will he/she go to heaven? he/she could have lived a better life if only he/she did not give up?. But before we judge those people who have resorted to this melancholic decision. let us try to examine ourselves as well. I am pretty sure in one way or another each of us thought of  committing suicide literally and figuratively speaking. There are times that we tell ourselves that we can't go on and ending our life is the only solution. Yes, it is reality. Unfortunately for those who have committed suicide they were not able to redeem themselves or served their real purpose AND fortunately for us that were able to have a full grip of our sanity, it is our mission and battle to continue life whatever it takes. Each of us carries our own cross. But it is also not a hidden fact that we have people around us whom we can lean on when we falter, get bruised, and weaken by the weight of the crossed we've been carrying in this lifetime. Our task now is to identify those significant people who can help us survive is competitive life. These people could be your parents, siblings, friends, or even those people you meet in cyberspace. It is a matter of choosing those right people. But the question is How would you know that it is the right person you can trust? Well I'll leave to you the answers. Bottomline, it is always a matter of your choice. A choice founded with correct and rational thinking partnered with magnanimous heart. Do what makes you happy because all good things emanate from a person who has a happy and sharing heart.
