They said he had died!
One morning in 1888 Alfred Nobel, the inventor of dynamite, who had amassed a fortune manufacturing and selling weapons of destruction, awoke to read his own obituary in the newspaper.
Actually, it was his brother who had died, but a reporter mistakenly wrote Alfred's obituary. For the first time Alfred Nobel saw himself as the world saw him: "The Dynamite King" and nothing more. Nothing was mentioned about his efforts at breaking down barriers between people and ideas. He was simply a merchant of death, and he would be remembered for that alone.
Alfred was horrified. He determined that the world would know the true people of his life. So he wrote his last will and testament and left his fortune to establish that most valued of all prizes: the NOBEL PEACE PRIZE.
Now, the world has forgotten his dynamite legacy.

After reading this story, I came to realize that in our everyday living as we traverse the long and winding path of life, we tend to forget what is really our main purpose of living. What are we living for? Why do we continue to survive? Why are working day and night?
There are a lot of questions that are running inside my head. Questions pertaining to what will be my legacy in life. A legacy that would make my parents and those people who knows me proud. But beyond that external motivation, what will be my internal motive of leaving a legacy worth remembering for?
As I try to reminisce the 24 years that I've been spending, I can never really pinpoint even a single event that I can say that it can be my legacy to the people. Then it came into my mind this question: "What is my understanding of legacy?"
Does legacy means all your note-worthy achievements in life? or does legacy means your own principles and ideals? What is really the accurate definition of legacy?
I simply define legacy as on how I lived my life, on the very nature of how I did my best out of what I only have. My legacy can be viewed either on the good side or bad. It is now up to the person how he/she sees me as an individual. My legacy is to live my life. A life which is bound to end. The legacy to show life both in its glorious and disastrous life for in this manner, people will get to see a view of what is life then if they'll tread on the path leading towards evil or journey on a life encircled by goodness.
Bottomline, legacy should not limited by someone else's definition or of someone of high scholastic achievement or of someone with extravagant living.
Legacy should be define based on your purest intention of how you will live and leave the life you have right now.
